Why isn't the site the unit of citation anymore?

The page is the unit of citation, not the site. When ChatGPT recommends a business, the model read individual pages, attributed them to a brand, and quoted what it trusted enough to cite. A website is still a marketing surface for humans. Now it's also infrastructure an AI system reads on a buyer's behalf — a second audience most sites were never built for. WordPress was built when Google was the only entry point. SaaS starters were built for dashboards and auth. Closed builders were built for lock-in. None were built so a model can read a page, identify the brand behind it, and trust the structure enough to quote it. Sites built for both audiences compound. Sites built for one leak share to competitors whose pages got cited instead.

AI Launch Kit (AILK) is the open-source website foundation for the agent-first internet — the substrate AI-search agencies and developers use to ship SMB sites that work for agents and humans from day one. The Apache 2.0 starter ships a typed schema registry covering 60 page types, a first-class MCP server with CI-enforced parity to the human UI, and an AEO scoring CLI that runs in CI. An agent-assisted scaffolding workflow takes a project from reference brand to deployed site in days. Built by the Working Theory Labs team, who run Sam Henry, Working Theory, and SalesSmyth on the same substrate. Paid tiers add capability. They never gate access.

Yes. AILK ships under Apache 2.0 — not source-available, not free-until-you-make-money. The schema registry, MCP server, and AEO scoring CLI all live in the OSS repo today.

Working Theory is the product line AILK ships under, built by the Working Theory Labs team. AILK works fully standalone — Working Theory Platform is a separate product for growth marketing as a system, and it publishes into AILK with the deepest integration. Neither product requires the other.

Not if AI search visibility is your deliverable. Launch Service is a fixed-scope two-week deploy onto the substrate — your team owns content and citation work from there. No MDX, no build pipeline required.

Not as a separate tier. Fleet management, cross-site rollup, and white-labeling are planned as a future Enterprise multi-tenant entitlement, not shipped yet.
